The Salt Box Inn is located at 39062 Tarpon Lane in Avon, has 3 levels containing 3 bedrooms 2 baths. The house Rents from Sunday to Sunday which helps avoid the huge traffic issues that occur to vacationers entering the Outer Banks on Saturday. Situated on a canal, allows for water access to the Pamlico Sound and all the waterfront location in Hatteras Colony or in Avon. This location is very popular with Kayakers, Paddle Boarders and boaters. For the Fisherman the canal will allow access to the Pamlico Sound where you can try and catch trout, blues, flounder and other bottom fish. We have a 21’ Carolina Skiff (pictured) and have no issue accessing the Sound. It takes some time to learn the waters of the Pamlico because of the shallow areas, so always follow channel markers and be careful. Boating tip, access the sound north then west of Big Island, then south to the channel out of Avon harbor, the follow the various channel markers. Cape Channel can be a good place to fish.

Additionally, the kids always have fun fishing and crabbing in the canal. The beach is an easy 10 minute walk or less. The strand on Avon’s north end is very wide and provides plenty of room for all.

The house is conveniently located near some beach stores and restaurants. We only offer our property for rent on a weekly basis from Sunday to Sunday. We do not rent partial week nor do we rent to groups 25 or under or house parties.

Ground Level

There is sink and fish cleaning area. There is plenty of storage area under the house for kayaks, Paddle Boarders, etc.. Also if you bring wind surfing or kite board equipment there is plenty room on the well maintain lawn area for them. There is small dock area on the canal, for securing a boat. The best boat launching ramp is at the Avon harbor, there are other ramps near by too.

First Level

This level is the laundry area and has both a washer and dryer. Also other items can be stored in this room.

Second Level

This is the main living area were the living room, one bedroom (queen); full bath, kitchen, and access to the screen porch are located. Also the cover porch with hot tub and sun deck are situated on this level. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator with ice maker, stove/oven, dishwasher, small chest freezer and a fully equipped kitchen for meal preparation.

Third Level

There are 2 bedrooms (queen) (twin and bunk bed) and a full bath located on this level. Also form the queen bedroom you can access a south facing sun deck to allow for extra sun bathing on a cool breezy day. Additionally there is a whirlpool tub located in the queen bedroom.

Always remember to acquire renter’s insurance to protect your vacation/investment from the threat of Hurricanes or other issues. There will be NO Refunds if your vacation is canceled due to access to Hatteras Island being closed because of a Storm, or other reasons. Refunds require a 30 day written notice to the property manager. Generally most storms occur towards the end of August and the first 15 days of September. Nevertheless, it your choice, but be aware of this potential issue.
